About Nick
Nick Farr-Jones is a highly decorated former captain of the Australian Rugby Union team. Blessed with natural born leadership, Nick Farr-Jones captained the Australian team during a successful a period between 1988 and 1992 that saw the team win the Rugby Union World Cup, the 1992 Bledisloe Cup and convincingly defeat South Africa.
At the time of his retirement, Nick was Australia’s most capped scrum half and it’s most capped captain. Nick’s early life took him from Newington College to Sydney University where he studied law between 1980 and 1985, leading to employment with Sydney law firm Garland Hawthorn Brahe.
Nick was first selected to New South Wales and Australian teams in 1984. He captained the Australian team in 36 consecutive Test matches between 1988 and 1992. Following his 1993 retirement from the field in, Nick and his family relocated to Paris where Nick worked in the banking industry with SG.
Nick and former team-mate Steve Cutler co-authored a book; Nick and Cuts, and his biography by Peter FitzSimmons was a number one best-seller in 1993. In 2003 Nick released Nick Farr-Jones’ Story of the Rugby World Cup. Nick has continued writing with regular pieces for such newspapers as The Daily Telegraph in the United Kingdom and The Daily Telegraph in Sydney.
In 1992, Nick’s contribution to the game was recognised by the Order of Australia for his services to rugby.
Nick continues to work in the Sydney office of SG as the Director of Mining Finance while serving as a Councilor on the Sydney City Council, and as a board member for Wesley Mission.
Nick has been in high demand as a television commentator here and abroad, with particular regularity in New Zealand. With regular appointments with corporate, sporting and charitable organisations, Nick Farr-Jones is a highly-popular motivational speaker who talks about challenges on and off the field covering topics of leadership, team work, winning and persistence.
