Originally a champion mountain biker in the late 1990s, Evans transitioned to professional road cycling in 2001 and quickly established himself as one of the sport’s most consistent competitors. He twice finished runner-up in the Tour de France (2007 and 2008) before achieving cycling’s ultimate triumph in 2011 at the age of 34.
Evans’ breakthrough victory also followed his success at the UCI Road World Championships, where he became the first Australian to win the prestigious rainbow jersey. Throughout his career he wore the leader’s jersey in all three Grand Tours and claimed victories in major international races, demonstrating exceptional versatility and endurance.
Since retiring from professional cycling in 2015, Evans has remained closely connected to the sport and to promoting healthy, active lifestyles. He played a key role in launching the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race in Victoria, which attracts many of the world’s top cyclists and inspires thousands of amateur riders to participate in community cycling events.
