In 1999, Shane left home in Perth, WA to follow in his grandfather's and father’s footsteps and joined the Australian Defence Force. He was based in Darwin for only a short time before finding himself in East Timor on a peacekeeping mission. Upon his return he challenged my soldiering skills through an infantry sniper course. Succeeding in this course left me wanting to test and challenge myself further.
