Shane Walker is a former NRL player and highly regarded rugby league coach whose career has been defined by leadership, innovation, resilience and a willingness to challenge convention.
A product of Toowoomba, Shane enjoyed a decade-long professional playing career, making his NRL debut with the Brisbane Broncos in 1996 before going on to play 150 first-grade games for the Broncos and South Sydney Rabbitohs. He was part of the Broncos’ 2000 NRL premiership-winning squad and experienced first-hand the demands of performing at the highest level under legendary coach Wayne Bennett.
Following his playing career, Shane moved into coaching and, alongside his brother Ben, became one of rugby league’s most innovative coaching figures. The Walker brothers transformed the Ipswich Jets from a struggling side into 2015 Queensland Cup and NRL State Championship winners, developing an unconventional, entertaining style of football that challenged traditional thinking about how the game should be played.
Their success was built around a simple philosophy: back yourself, think differently and create an environment where people can perform at their best. Shane’s approach to coaching has earned widespread respect for its creativity, courage and focus on developing people as well as players.
In 2026, Shane and Ben returned to coaching with the Western Clydesdales, bringing their experience and distinctive approach back to their home region of Toowoomba.
As a speaker, Shane draws on his experiences at the highest levels of rugby league to deliver engaging insights into leadership, teamwork, resilience, innovation, culture, challenging the status quo and getting the best out of people.
Authentic, entertaining and refreshingly unconventional, Shane Walker provides audiences with practical lessons from a career built on competing hard, thinking differently and having the courage to back yourself.
