About Sandy
Sandy Hollway AO is highly regarded for his exceptional record of achievement as a CEO in the public sector.
He served as a diplomat in four overseas postings – the USA, Canada, Germany and Pakistan. In government he served as Deputy Secretary for the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. Later Sandy was Chief of Staff for then Prime Minister Bob Hawke. Prior to 1997, Sandy was head of two Federal Government Departments – Employment, Education, Training and Youth Affairs, and Industry Science and Technology.
Sandy served on the boards of the CSIRO, AIDC , and the Trade Policy Advisory Committee.
Sandy is well known for his role as CEO of SOCOG, the Sydney Organising Committee for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, where he led over 120,000 people in delivering ’the best Olympics ever’.
Sandy has contributed to a wide range of private and public sector projects ranging from bushfire and cyclone recovery, to major events management, including the Olympic Games, to promotion of Australian business abroad, especially in China, to private sector advice and CEO mentoring. He also serves as a Special Envoy for the Australian Government on two issues – the Kokoda Track and Whale Conservation. He retains a strong interest in the community sector and was Chairman of the NSW Committee for the International Year of Volunteers in 2001.
