About Phil
An integral member of the Australian Wallabies who captured the 1999 World Cup, Phil Kearns was at a time the best hooker in the world.
Phil debuted for Australia in 1989 and would go on to play 67 Tests and in the process become Australia’s most capped hooker. His leadership was recognised by Australian Rugby, awarding him the captaincy for ten matches throughout his career.
Phil’s determination and passion for the game saw him make an incredible comeback from achilles and knee injuries that kept him on the sidelines for a year and a half.
Phil was a highly competitive beast. Aside his natural physical talent, his will to win, preparation and dedication to his team made him highly popular with fans, team mates, the media, and opposition. Following retirement and moving into media and charity work, his popularity has never waned.
With a degree in Economics and Economic History from the University of New South Wales, Phil is now the Managing Director for a major IT company. He also commentates on Fox Sports and Channel Nine broadcasts of Rugby and dedicates countless hours to numerous charities.
