About Neil
Neil Craig has had a successful career as an Australian Rules football player, coach and administrator that has spanned over 40 years. Neil was inducted into the South Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2002. His background in Sports Science has led to stints with the Australian Olympic Cycling Team and the Australian Rugby team.
Neil represented South Australia in State of Origin competition 11 times including captaining the 1984 team. He played with SANFL teams: Sturt, North Adelaide and Norwood from 1973 to 1990. He was a valued member of Norwood’s 1975 and 1978 premiership teams, winning the club’s best and fairest award in 1977. He went on to become the captain of Sturt for the 1985 and 1986 seasons.
Following the completion of his playing career Craig turned to coaching, leading Norwood between 1991 and 1995 before becoming the Fitness Coordinator of the Adelaide Football Club. Neil spent two years in this position, coinciding with Adelaide’s back-to-back premiership years.
Neil was appointed assistant coach of Adelaide in 2001 and later named as senior coach, leading the club to a string of finals appearances. Following his time with Adelaide, an in-demand Craig was made Director of Sports Performance at the Melbourne Football Club where he mentored and assisted younger players and assistant coaches.
At the end of 2013 Craig was appointed as the head of Coaching Development and Strategy at the Essendon Football Club. In 2014 he was promoted to the position of General Manager, Performance. Neil is an excellent and in-demand motivational speaker.
