About Eddie
Eddie Jones is a highly successful former-coach of the Australian Wallabies. Eddie began playing rugby as a small, mobile hooker alongside future greats David Knox and the Ella Brothers at Matraville High School. He would go on to play for Randwick, New South Wales, and the Australian Barbarians before retiring to concentrate on his career as a teacher and school principal.
Jones started his coaching career with his beloved Randwick in Sydney before being poached by Japanese Rugby Union in 1996, taking control of their national team. Following international duties he would become the head coach of Suntory in the Japanese Company Championship.
Following his success in Japan, Jones returned to Australia to coach the ACT Brumbies in the 1998 Super Rugby competition. He coached the team for four seasons, winning the championship in 2001 and in the process be named the Super Rugby Coach of the Year in successive years. Jones would also coach the Australian Barbarians in 1999 and the Australia A team that defeated the British Lions in 2001. Jones would then take the reins of the Australian Wallabies, coaching the team until 2005.
Under his tutelage the team would successfully defend the Bledisloe Cup for five straight years. In 2003 the Wallabies made the Rugby World Cup final but would lose in extra time to England. In 2004 the Wallabies would go undefeated against successive touring teams: Scotland, England, the Pacific Islands, New Zealand and South Africa.
At the end of 2006, Jones accepted the position of coach of the Queensland Reds. He would also spend time with Saracens in England and consult for the South African team that won the 2007 World Cup.
In 2011 Eddie returned to Japan to assume head coaching duties with side Suntory Sungoliath who would go on to win all the domestic titles in 2012.
