About Cheryl
As a ‘navigator of the education landscape’ Cheryl Lacey has faced the winds of political change, negotiated the peaks and troughs of funding, and followed the meandering paths of policy and power struggles.
As a teacher, she has had years of professional practice in the classroom. She is also a parent, with a keen interest and involvement in her children’s schools. As an advocate, she works with other educators and the wider community to promote the best possible education for Australia’s young people.
Her first-hand, practical experience of the school-home-community connection has shaped her major interest: the all-important relationship between schools and the families they serve. “In the education of their children parents should exercise choice, and be a voice. Authentic schools make sure that happens”.
Cheryl offers learning and development seminars and webinars, and runs an advisory service for educational professionals. She writes on education-related matters and is a regular contributor to a range of forums. A keen observer and a frank commentator, she keeps the media spotlight on current issues involving schools.
She is a popular and effective keynote speaker at functions and conferences. In speaking engagements, she shares her strategies for influencing opinion, promoting action and taking leadership initiative. She leaves audiences determined to assume less, challenge more and question everything.
‘Taking the Lead’, in any meaningful way, requires open and respectful communication, and cooperative relationships; Cheryl shows her audiences how best to use those strengths as they trek through difficult territory.
Cheryl also shares her own stories and perspectives, which add colour and warmth to her presentations.
