Born on August 12, 1994, in George Town, Tasmania, Nankervis began his football journey with North Launceston in the Tasmanian Football League. His impressive performances at the junior level, including a standout display in the 2013 AFL Under 18 Championships where he earned All-Australian honors and was a joint winner of the Harrison Medal, led to his selection by the Sydney Swans with pick No. 35 in the 2013 AFL National Draft.
