About Tayla
AFLW star and professional boxer Tayla Harris represents the power of female determination and proudly advocates for breaking barriers in women’s sport.
Tayla Harris played in the inaugural AFLW season with the Brisbane Lions as a marquee player. Harris received All Australian honours two years in a row, as well as winning Mark of the Year in season 2018.
In 2022 Tayla moved from Carlton to the Melbourne Football Club.
As well as being formidable on the footy field, Harris packs quite the punch as a professional boxer and boasts an undefeated record with four wins and one draw.
Thanks to Harris’ sporting ability on the football field and inside the ring, she has become a face of Nike worldwide. She features in Nike’s 2018 ad campaign, designed to highlight the power of female determination and to also display women breaking down barriers through sport.
Tayla is at the forefront of women making inroads into the male-dominated world of professional AFL. The AFL is deeply rooted in Australian culture and there’s still a strong association with AFL and masculinity. In 2019, Harris was the subject of “digital sexual abuse” following a photo showing her kicking for goal being posted to social media. She showed great maturity in speaking out about the issue and is part of a moment for female empowerment.
