Matthew Johns is a former Australian Rugby League international turned television host, actor, author, singer, rugby league analyst and funnyman. He is truly one of Australia’s most entertaining people.
Johns had a long-term stint with Channel Nine as the host of The Footy Show and also Channel Seven with The Matty Johns Show but can now be found on Fox Sports as the host of Monday Night Football. His highly successful alter-ego, Reg Reagan, has seemingly had a career of his own, entertaining crowds around Australia often chirping his famous line “bring back the biff”. Reg’s own DVD All of Me went multi-platinum while the 2004 single Am I Ever Gonna See the Biff Again earned gold status and earned an ARIA nomination.
Johns’ 2004 book Reg Reagan’s ‘This is My Life’ was a runaway success that earned him a two book deal. He also landed a leading role in the film The Final Winter which was released in 2007. Johns has enjoyed corporate relationships with McDonalds, TAB Ltd, Fosters, News Limited and auto dealer Worthington Prestige. Johns is also an ambassador of The Sony Foundation which has raised more than $7 million and supported a number of charities.
A career that saw him play for the Newcastle Knights, Wigan Warriors and Cronulla Sharks, Johns was forced into retirement due to a persistent shoulder injury. In the 1990’s, Johns and brother Andrew were responsible for many Knights victories with the last minute heroics in the 1997 ARL Grand Final a career highlight.
