About Matt
Matt Skinner is an author, writer, consultant, and educator well known to both local and international audiences for his refreshing take on wine, and knack for making it simple.With over 13 years’ experience, he is well known to International audiences as an author, broadcaster and writer on the subject.
In October 2002 he was invited by Jamie Oliver to head up wine at Fifteen and to teach the subject to its students. Matt was involved for six years overseeing wine operations for the group (they opened four branches of Fifteen) and was Head Sommelier at Fifteen London during that time. He also held consultancy roles with Match Group UK and Sainsbury’s UK. After five years in London, Matt returned home to Melbourne in December 2007. He also holds an ambassadorial role with Plumm Wine Glasses and is a Wine Selection Panel Member for Jetstar International Airlines.
Matt has a refreshing take on the industry and a knack for making wine simple. His first book Thirsty Work was awarded ‘Best Educational Wine Book UK’ at the 2005 Gourmand World Cookbook Awards and to date has been published in sixteen countries and ten languages. Matt consulted to Melbourne’s renowned Van Haandel Group (Stokehouse, Cutler & Co, Comme, Ladro & Mr Tulk) and The Gazebo Group in Sydney.
Today he continues his association with Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Group, and consults to Coles Group, Jetstar and Plumm Glassware.
Matt has been a regular contributor to Sunday Life, BBC Australian Good Food, Gourmet Traveller WINE, and Home Beautiful. Together with his family, he lives, works and plays in Melbourne. His enthusiasm for wine is only surpassed by his dedication to encouraging people of all ages to feel more comfortable, passionate and enthusiastic about the subject.
