About Mark
Mark Hughes was an elite NRL Rugby League athlete, playing for the Newcastle Knights from 1997 to 2005, amassing 161 career games in Australia. He represented NSW Origin in 2001 and played for NSW Country. He played club football for the Newcastle Knights in the Australian National Rugby League (NRL) and later for the Catalan Dragons in the European Super League.
He primarily played at fullback or in the centres. In 2013, he was diagnosed with brain cancer and subsequently established the Mark Hughes Foundation to raise awareness of the incidence of Brain Cancer in Australia and internationally.
‘Brain cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in children, and adults aged under 40 in Australia, yet alarmingly very little is known about brain cancer, its causes or how it is treated!
That is why the Mark Hughes Foundation was formed so that research can be carried out to decrease mortality rates and decrease the incident of brain cancer in Australia. We want to make a difference.’
He is a very accomplished keynote for both corporates and club functions
