About Katie

Katie Brennan was signed as a player for the Western Bulldogs ahead of the inaugural AFL Women’s season in 2017. In July 2016, Brennan signed with the Western Bulldogs as one of their two marquee players ahead of the AFL Women’s inaugural season and was also announced as the inaugural captain of the Bulldogs.

Born in Queensland to Victorian parents, Brennan began playing football with her father and brothers at the age of four. Her first game of competitive football came when she filled in for her brother’s under eight side at just six years of age. She kicked seven goals on debut and continued to play with the Logan Cobras boys through to the age of fifteen.

From there, Brennan moved to the youth girls league before moving again into the Queensland Women’s League a year later. She played for and captained the Queensland under 18 side between 2007 and 2010. Brennan moved to Melbourne ahead of the 2013 season, where she began playing for the Darebin Falcons in the Victorian Women’s Football League (VWFL).

Brennan was drafted twenty-second overall by the Western Bulldogs in the 2013 women’s draft and played for the club’s representative side in exhibition matches through to 2016. Brennan was the winner of the Susan Alberti Award for the Western Bulldogs’s best female player at the end of the 2015 exhibition season. She received the VFL Women’s Best and Fairest award and the VFL Women’s leading goal-kicker award for her performances in the 2017 state league season.

Brennan was limited in the 2017 season by a preseason ankle injury. After playing the first two matches of the season a quad injury saw Brennan sidelined for the remaining five matches. She finished the season having kicked three goals in her two matches.

In the 2017 VFL Women’s season, she had another ankle injury but returned to kick 20 goals in the last three matches of the season. In her round 1 return to AFL Women’s in 2018, Brennan kicked a match-best three goals in a 26 point victory over Fremantle. Katie is available for speaking engagements and covers topics such as Women in Sport, AFLW, Leadership, Teamwork and My AFLW Journey.
