Hot on the heels of their recent Australian #HYPETOUR, which saw them undertake their third headlining tour with 18 shows in a month on metropolitan and regional stages, Justice Crew continue their winning-streak with the release of their eagerly-awaited new single, ‘Que Sera.’
As Australia’s leading urban/pop group, Justice Crew have released a string of hit singles since coming to the public’s attention in 2010, proving that not only do they possess a versatile and extreme talent, but that their appeal is consistent and prevailing. 2013 saw the group follow up their #1 Aria single “Boom Boom” (6 x Platinum), with a further two smash Aria Top 10 hit singles – ‘Best Night’ and ‘Everybody’, both of which were certified double-Platinum in Australia.
“It seems as if every opportunity just gets bigger and better for us, so we just take whatever we can and make the best of it. We just want to keep working hard until we reach our goals, and even then we won’t stop,” says Justice Crew member John Pearce. “There were a few people who thought we’d have our fifteen seconds of fame and then fade out, but it’s been nearly four years in the public eye now and we’re still here.”
It’s not surprising then that international success and recognition came calling for Justice Crew, who made major inroads into New Zealand, SE Asia, and the US in 2013, where they were handpicked by superstar Pitbull to release ‘Boom Boom’ via his own label-imprint 305, in conjunction with RCA.
“We had an incredible opportunity to release and promote our single in America, so we went over there for a while and worked hard on that,” John says modestly. “We also got the chance to support Pitbull and Ke$ha on their US tour, which included about 25 arena shows over 5 weeks. It was an incredible experience; we learnt a lot and made some great international contacts.”
“It’s fantastic to receive international recognition for what we do and to have people like Pitbull see our potential. We have a lot in common with him and his team – we have all come from a struggle, and we’re working hard to achieve our goals in the entertainment industry,” adds Crew member Solo Tohi.
Whilst in the US, Justice Crew hooked up with Canadian songwriting/production duo The Messengers, who’ve worked with the likes of Christina Aguilera, Shakira and Jason Derulo. The duo, consisting of singer song-writer and front man for Canadian four piece band Magic!, Nasri Atweh, with multi-instrumentalist and arranger Adam Messinger, were Grammy-nominated for their work on Justin Beiber’s ‘My World 2.0’ album, and Grammy Award-winners for their work on Chris Brown’s ‘F.A.M.E’album.
“These guys have worked with the most incredible artists it’s amazing that we were able to work with them as well,” says John proudly. “They have made a major impact in the industry and had such great experience to share with us, which has just made us even more ready to make music for audiences around the world.”
The partnership resulted in Justice Crew’s new single ‘Que Sera,’ which changes up the pace and style of the group’s previous singles, this time opting for a more mature mid-tempo pop/hip hop sound. “It’s a bit of a different sound for Justice Crew; it’s a different direction for us, which is great because we wanted to evolve and show how we have developed. It’s not always about partying and having fun, so we’re taking it a bit deeper this time around,” John says.
“The saying “Que Sera Sera” translates to “whatever will be, will be”, so it’s about things that happen in life that you can’t necessarily control, and so you just have to go with it. As a Crew we’ve had our ups and downs and plenty of times when we thought things weren’t gonna happen for us, but we kept on dreaming and kept our heads up, and moved forward with positive energy as a brotherhood. That is the essence of the song.”
The bond of friendship that exists between the members of Justice Crew is something they all take seriously, and is at the forefront of ‘Que Sera’. As Solo explains, “We all come from different backgrounds, and we came together through our experiences in life and our love of performing. We’ve achieved, but we’re still dreaming of taking our careers even further, continuing to evolve from boys to men.
“We’ve come from busking, to dancing, and now we’re recognised as a successful urban/pop group – the journey is constantly twisting and turning, and there’s still a long way to go. We share all of that, and as such we’re really tight and always have each other’s back. These are my boys, and that’s evident in the strength of this single and the essence of Justice Crew.”
