Gary Lisbon has been an accomplished Melbourne, Australia -based golf-course photographer for almost two decades.

With an appreciation for the game’s traditions, and a genuine love of the playing aspect, Gary brings a golfer’s perspective to his photography, ably demonstrated by his spectacular and enduring images from more than 685 courses in 26 countries around the globe.

Having grown up in Melbourne, Australia, in the middle of its world-famous Melbourne ‘Sand belt’ region, Gary’s golfing environment provides ample opportunity to practice his photographic skills and also his golfing skills currently playing from an enviable mid-single figure handicap at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club – one of the world’s finest golf courses.

A long-time panelist and World Top-100 course-rater for the illustrious US Golf Magazine, Gary’s images have graced the pages of the golf industry’s premier magazines.

Furthermore, Gary has published a number of coffee table books showcasing his spectacular imagery including:

• Great Golf Courses of the World featuring images from 100 courses in 20 countries in a unique panoramic style book format
• Great Golf Down Under (volumes 1,2,3) showcasing the best of golf in the Australia and New Zealand landscape
• Golfing in the British Isles – a weekend warriors guide to the best golf from where golf began

An early riser by choice – also a vocational requirement – Gary’s patience is reflected in his collection of attractive images, which celebrate the striking yet ever-changing mood of golf courses around the world.

Gary’s presentation features the display of many of his golf course images from around the world and the stories behind how they were captured.

The end result is a portfolio of breathtaking images created with a combination of his strong understanding and genuine love of golf, his creativity and passion, technical prowess, a fair degree of patience and just a tiny bit of luck.

Gary Lisbon is a leading figure in the world of golf course photography, capturing the beauty and drama of the game on golf courses around the globe. IN addition to his skill as a photographer he is also a passionate advocate for golf tourism and golf course design.

Early Life and Career Shift:

• Commencing work as a Chartered Accountant for one of the big accounting firms Gary soon realized that accounting was not how he wanted to spend his working life.
• Gary started working with 1991 Open Champion Ian Baker-Finch in Pure Golf Academy before taking his deep love of golf
• In 1996 Gary and his wife Maureen established GOLFSelect, a company focusing on the delivery of world class corporate golf events, bespoke golf holidays around the world and golf course photography commissions.

Passion for Photography:

• Lisbon has a passion for capturing the beauty of a golf course through the lens of his camera.
• In an age where visual representation helps to showcase a golf course and lead to revenue generation his services have been highly sought after.

Accomplishments and Recognition:

• Lisbon has photographed some of the most prestigious courses in the world with his current courses count being more than 685 courses in 26 countries
• Courses photographed include Royal Melbourne, Barnbougle Dunes, the Old Course at St Andrews, Pebble Beach, Muirfield, Ballybunion, Augusta National and more
• He has published four books showcasing his work: “Great Golf Courses of the World”, “Great Golf Down Under – volumes 1,2 and 3”
• He is commissioned by various clubs, magazines, and websites for his photography and his judging expertise extends to the US Golf Magazine’s World Top 100 Courses.
• He remains actively involved in promoting golf tourism and contributing to the wider golfing community.

The Golf Society was fortunate to have Gary speak at one of our dinners. In his presentation, Gary spoke of his lifelong passion for golf course photography and generously shared with us how he captures courses in the best way he can.
