Damien is a well-known media performer, hosting cricket programs on Channel Seven, SEN radio and commentating on the ABC’s cricket and football programs. He also pens a column in Inside Edge magazine and a column for the Sunday Age.
A right arm bowler known for his calm demeanour and reliability in pressure situations, Damien is the only Australian to take a test hat-trick on debut. Damien played twenty tests for Australia and was an important member of Australia’s one-day international team, playing 88 matches, including the 1999 World Cup triumph, taking 134 wickets at an average of 25.38. Aside his hat trick, Damien is perhaps best remembered for his measured bowling in the final overs of the 1996 and 1999 world cup semi-finals.
Injuries caused Damien to retire in 2003 but he stayed involved in cricket taking up a coaching role at the Adelaide Cricket Academy (now the Centre of Excellence in Queensland).
Damien has been dubbed the ‘bowlologist’ for his knowledge and analysis of the intricacies of swing bowling. Damien is a popular and in-demand public speaker. He is often asked to speak of the Shane Warne dropped catch that cost him his second hat-trick and bowling at the death in the famous World Cup semi-final tie in 1999.
