Banjo is a nationally respected sommelier, wine show judge and wine commentator. He developed his passion for fine dining restaurants in Adelaide, London and Sydney before relocating to Melbourne in 2011 to take the lead at the internationally-renowned restaurant, Attica.
During his tenure, the restaurant received multiple accolades, both locally and internationally. Banjo was also awarded the Best Sommelier in Australia title twice, and has represented Australia in international sommelier competitions overseas on regular occasions. His passion for the entirety of the food, wine and hospitality scene is evident in his most recent project, an educational forum entitled GROW Assembly. Similar to TED Talks, this conference inspires young hospitality professionals by linking them directly with leaders in their field.
When Banjo relocated to Attica as the Restaurant Manager and Head Sommelier crafted an award-winning wine list, as well as bringing the standard of service to a level in which it was repeatedly regarded not only the best in Melbourne, but one of the top restaurants in the world.
Banjo currently part owns a wine distribution business (REAL Wines), an online wine sales business (The Wine Gallery), a wine bar (Bar Liberty) and is on the way to becoming just the fourth Australian-based Master Sommelier. What he doesn’t know about wine isn’t worth knowing and his ability to take the ‘wank factor’ out of wine is legendary and incredibly funny.
