All Blacks Legend | Rugby World Cup Winner | Broadcaster | All Blacks Selector
Grant Fox is one of New Zealand rugby’s most iconic figures, best known for his tactical brilliance, pinpoint goal-kicking, and dominance in the All Blacks’ number 10 jersey during the late 1980s and early 1990s. A Rugby World Cup winner, revered commentator, and long-time All Black selector, Grant has left an enduring legacy on and off the field.
Making his first-class debut for Auckland in 1982 and for the All Blacks in 1984, Grant went on to become one of the most prolific scorers in test history. He retired from international rugby in 1993 as New Zealand’s highest-ever test points scorer at the time—a testament to his precision and consistency under pressure.
His career highlight came in 1987, playing a pivotal role in New Zealand’s victory at the inaugural Rugby World Cup, with his accurate kicking providing a critical foundation for the team’s success.
Beyond his playing days, Grant transitioned seamlessly into coaching and broadcasting. He served as assistant coach for the Auckland NPC team, contributing to their championship seasons in 1999 and 2002–2003. He also became a respected voice in rugby media, commentating for Sky Sport, NBC, and EA Sports.
In recognition of his service to rugby, Grant was awarded an MBE in the 1995 New Year Honours.
Grant continues to serve New Zealand Rugby as an All Blacks selector, playing a key role in the team’s historic back-to-back World Cup wins in 2011 and 2015. His deep understanding of the game, strategic acumen, and unfiltered honesty make him one of the most influential minds in the sport today.
Away from rugby, Grant proudly supports his son, Ryan Fox, a world-class professional golfer. Often seen carrying Ryan’s bag on tour, Grant has become a familiar figure in international golf circles.
Rather than deliver a formal presentation, Grant prefers a Q&A format, either interviewed by an MC or taking questions directly from the audience. His storytelling is candid, humorous, and insightful—with no topic off limits. Whether reflecting on the pressures of test rugby, sharing behind-the-scenes All Blacks moments, or discussing the transition from elite sport to the next chapter, Grant captivates audiences with his authenticity and wit.
