About Andrew McQualter

Andrew McQualter is a former Australian rules footballer and current senior coach of the West Coast Eagles in the AFL. Born on June 9, 1986, in Traralgon, Victoria, he earned the nickname “Mini” as a child, being a smaller version of his older brother Tom.

Playing Career

McQualter was drafted by St Kilda with pick No. 17 in the 2004 AFL Draft. He debuted in 2005 and played 89 games for the Saints, including appearances in the 2009 and 2010 Grand Finals . After being delisted in 2011, he joined the Gold Coast Suns in 2012, adding five more games to his AFL career.

Coaching Career

Transitioning into coaching, McQualter began as a development coach at the Gold Coast Suns in 2013. He then spent a decade at Richmond, contributing to their 2017, 2019, and 2020 premierships as an assistant coach . In 2023, he served as Richmond’s interim senior coach, achieving a 7–6 record over 13 games

In 2024, McQualter joined Melbourne Football Club as an assistant coach . Later that year, he was appointed senior coach of the West Coast Eagles on a three-year contract Personal Life

McQualter is married to Jane, and they have three daughters: Emily, Alice, and Georgia
