Born on September 21, 1977, in Shepparton, Victoria, Yze began his football journey with Shepparton United in the Goulburn Valley Football League. He progressed through the ranks, playing for the Murray Bushrangers in the TAC Cup, before being drafted by the Melbourne Football Club with pick No. 16 in the 1994 National Draft.
Yze made his AFL debut in 1995 and became a mainstay in Melbourne’s lineup, playing 271 games and kicking 234 goals over a 14-year career. Notably, he achieved 226 consecutive games, underscoring his durability and consistency. His accolades include the Keith ‘Bluey’ Truscott Medal in 2001 and selection in the All-Australian team in 2002.

Transitioning into coaching, Yze joined the Hawthorn Football Club in 2012 as a specialist coach, focusing on goal-kicking. He was promoted to Assistant Coach in 2014, contributing to Hawthorn’s strategic development.
