About Rodney
Rodney Hogg was a cricket great and crowd favourite. He is now a well-respected and in-demand corporate and motivational speaker. Rodney’s stories and real-life experiences are told with perfect timing and enthusiasm. Even audience members who are neither cricket nor sporting fans will enjoy the anecdotes and tales that are delivered with tremendous wit and charm.
A blonde-haired, blue eyed pace bowling machine, Rodney took 41 wickets in the World-Series depleted Australian Ashes team of 1978/79. He regularly beat England’s best with his incredible pace. Usually one of Australia’s first picked, injury and a rebel tour to South Africa interrupted Rodney’s international career.
Always a quirky personality, he once instructed his wife to erase a videotape of him being dismissed softly, so as not to appear a coward to his son. Rodney is forever embarrassed by people who mistake him for a flash-in-the-pan sporting hack, “we are talking about a bloke who took 41 wickets at 12.85 in the 1978/79 Ashes series, not some pie-thrower who played a couple of Tests”.
Rodney’s Test debut, the 1978/79 Ashes series, would see him take six wickets on debut and twice take ten wickets in a match. He quickly became a fan favourite with the crowd chanting “Hoggie, Hoggie, Hoggie” as he galloped in to bowl.
Rodney is a great story teller and motivational speaker who is a perfect addition to corporate functions, business events and sports days. Rodney has incredible stories from a fascinating and colourful period in Australian cricket. In Rodney’s words “I was there for the 500 to one, I was there for the 43 cans, I was there for the underarm, I was there for the aluminium bat…”
