About Laurence

As a youngster, Laurence Coy was sports mad. He spent much of his idle time trying to figure out how he could combine playing Aussie Rules for Richmond, Rugby League for the Roosters, and cricket for Australia. A lack of raw talent meant he achieved none of these goals – but not without giving it a red hot go! He played over 300 games of lower grade rugby league both in Australia and England; he played 25 seasons of cricket, and continues to umpire to this day, and after ten games of AFL he couldn’t find a role for a short slow bloke who couldn’t kick, so he focussed on being a spectator.

Where he has found, success is in the performing arts. As an actor on stage he’s worked for all the State Theatre Companies in Australia; he performed in the Perth, Adelaide, and Sydney Festivals; and he’s an accomplished musical theatre performer who’s worked all around Australia and on the West End. His feature film credits include ‘San Andreas’, ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of The Dawn Trader’, ‘Fools Gold’, ‘The Three Stooges’, and ‘Doing Time for Patsy Cline’. On television, he’s appeared in ‘Devils Dust’, ‘Wild Boys’, ‘Rake’, ‘Crownies’, and ‘Paper Giants: The Birth of Cleo’.

He co-wrote and directed two series of ‘Tough Nuts – Australia’s Hardest Criminals’ for Foxtel; and ‘The Kangaroo Gang’ for the BBC. He also holds the rights to the iconic Australian play ‘Norm and Ahmed’ which he performs throughout the country to schools and businesses to highlight diversity and inclusion in their organisations. He is also one of Australia’s most accomplished MC’s.
