About Doug
Doug Hawkins is a larger than life personality and a true legend of Australian football. Affectionately known as ‘The Hawk’, he played 16 years with the Footscray Football Club and in the process broke Ted Witten’s record to become the club’s games record holder with 329 matches.
A determined and courageous wingman with genuine pace and an uncanny ability to rack up possessions, the wing at Witten Oval would be unofficially known as the Doug Hawkins Wing. He also won the club’s best and fairest award in 1985.
The wit and charm that Hawkins displayed as a regular panel member of Channel Nine’s The Footy Show lead to co-hosting duties of Channel Seven’s Live and Kicking.
Balancing his television work with broadcasting duties on Radio 3MMM, Hawkins is now a regular on Channel Seven’s The Game. A warm and down to earth performer, Hawkins is loved by audiences and is a true man of the people.
